This is a hardware compatibility list ONLY for OEM desktop computers. We want to keep it as accurate as possible, but please, do not entirely rely on this list when buying a desktop. Don't forget to add how you got OSx86 running on your x86 desktop computer, and to use proper English. Please see the discussion page for proper instructions on how to input your system specs. Also, please contribute to the HCL 10.5.2 page, which should list a more granular view of compatibility. If your computer isn't listed, you should try it if you have a SSE2 or higher processor. Use vanilla kernel if it is supported.
- ONLY add hardware that you have TESTED. Don't add hardware just because you think it might work.
- Please add hardware into tables.
- This is for 10.5.2 builds only.
Please list your computers in alphabetical order by manufacturer (Asus, Acer, Dell, HP, etc)
For how to edit the Wiki, please see this thread. Thank you!
Note: Please add whether your device supports QE, Quartz Extreme, graphics. Try playing a movie with Quicktime Player.

[edit] Acer
[edit]Aspire L100
- Install using Kalyway 10.5.2
- AMD patch 2, IMPORTANT: Make sure legacy flag patch is off or else boot will fail.
- AMD Athlon 64 x2 4000+
- nVidia sVGA 128 MB GeForce 6150
- 1 GB RAM (2x512 DDR2-666 SDRAM)
- 250 GB SATA
- Working Kernels: mach_kernel, speedstepkernel, sleepkernel, modbinkernel
- Audio: Works
- Ethernet: Fail
- Wireless: Works(Select brdcm driver during installation, 4th box in the wireless drivers list on the Kalyway 10.5.2 disk).
- Some apps hang: VLC closes when trying to play video even in newest version. Thinking graphics driver problem, not VLC. IN the menu bar the Airport, Eject, Sound and fast login(if set up) sometimes freezes. You get the color wheel when rollover and they are unusable. Other docked icons are still usable.
- Some apps freeze on launch: Disk Utility, DVD Player, Front Row. Some apps that freeze get stuck in the dock and another instance cannot be run (Error -600). Using Activity Monitor to kill the process does nothing, sometimes even Activity Monitor hangs.
- Boot time ~ 2-3 minutes
- Cannot restart or shutdown if any apps are frozen. Hold power button to shut off. Make sure devices are unmounted first!
- Runs in 1024x768, haven't tried changing display settings at boot, no video drivers were selected during installation.

where en0 is the network interface (numbered from en0, en1, en2 ...) and aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff is the desired MAC address in hex notation.( Above from: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20031102075234315 )Check that MAC address has changed as follows: System Preferences, Network, Advanced, Ethernet (MAC address should be changed.)Then, click on the TCP/IP tab and click on Renew DHCP Lease, click on OK then Apply. Status should indicate Connected and useable IP Address. Try connecting with web browser which should work if steps followed correctly.

[edit] Precision 690 Workstation
- Install method: retail with EFI v8(GUID Partition), parallel install, with dsmos.kext added and appleIntelCPUManagement.kext deleted, also worked with Leo4All
- Cleanest install possible: vanilla + EFI v8 + dsmos.kext - appleIntelCPUManagement.kext. Add AppleHDAPatcher for audio, and nvinject or natit for add-in video. Didn't try onboard video.
- EFI v8 with vanilla 9.2.2 kernel
- CPU Xeon 5150 2.66ghz
- Chipset: Intel 5000X
- BIOS: A07
- RAM: 2GB FB-DIMMs
- Audio: onboard Sigmatel 9200, AppleHDAPatcher
- Video: nVidia 7800GT
- Sleep works, restart works, shutdown doesn't(does if you trigger case switch after shutdown)
- Broadcom network doesn't work
- Easiest way to install was to an external drive from a mac. If you don't have one, I would hook up a 2nd drive, do a Leo4All install to the secondary drive, then do a parallel install using EFI and retail to the primary drive. 10.5.2 update caused a kernel panic during install, but I think it was my NIC. Installed it from parallel OS and it works fine after re-removing AppleIntelCPUManagement.kext. Currently fully patched, all updates.

- Install method: Kalyway 10.5.2 with default options, EFI v8, etc. System even detected SAS 6 drives connected (left Vista on Dell's SAS drive; installed OS X on a new SATA internal drive I installed).
- After installation, run Kalyway 10.5.3 update and used Vanilla ROM
- CPU Dual Xeon Quad Core 3.17 Ghz
- Chipset: Intel X5460
- BIOS: A03
- RAM: 8GB FB-DIMMs (4 2 GB ECC PC2-5300)
- Audio: onboard SoundMax Integrated (VEN=11D4; DEV=1984) which shows as 'HD Audio Output' in Leopard.
- Video: nVidia 8800 640MB (NvInject)
- Sleep, restart, shutdown all work
- Came with internal network card and secondary PCI network card which does work with Kalyway default install (NetXtreme Gigabit)
- Bought PC from Dell as a Refurb and it came with the two network cards, internal speaker, Firewire card (works in Leopard). I swapped out the stock video card only because I had a better one sitting in a drawer. Leave the BIOS settings on their defaults (don't turn on things like Virtualization). Change the boot order, disable extraneous ports if you want (like parallel, serial, etc.) but leave the performance settings alone. You can always tweak them after the install. Works like a charm with very little effort put into it. This is my 6th OS x86 install and its never been this easy.

- Audio: AC '97 works OOB
- LAN: Works OOB
- WiFi: I added a USB WiFi adapter
[edit] T3646
Hardware specs:
- AMD Sempron LE-1250 CPU, 2.2GHz, SSE2/SSE3 support
- WinFast motherboard (unknown model)
- nVidia MCP61S (nForce 405 / GeForce 6100) motherboard chipset
- 160GB SATA hard disk
- PATA DVD+/-RW drive
- 1GB RAM
- $300 computer (in May 2008) without monitor
Pre-installation
- Added 320GB PATA hard disk with Linux (transferred from older computer)
- Configured BIOS to boot PATA hard disk as main disk
- Configured BIOS to disable USB mouse and keyboard
- Repartitioned 320GB hard disk to devote 117GB to MacOS in a primary partition (a logical partition did not work!); had to create partition of type 0xAF in Linux fdisk for MacOS
- Prepared GRUB in Linux to boot MacOS partition, as well as Linux and Windows Vista (pre-installed on SATA disk)
Install method:
- Used iPC OSx86 beta with PPF2 applied. Did an earlier install with Leo4All v2 (v3 always hung during boot; Kalyway 10.5.2 got further, but hung during install).
- Sometimes Leo4All v2 hangs during boot; pressing Enter key at boot prompt (rather than letting it time out) seems to get around the problem, or using -x boot option fixes the problem
- PS/2 keyboard and mouse require disabling USB keyboard and mouse in BIOS.
- Selected install options (from memory):
- Removed extra language options
- Voodoo kernel
- nVidia motherboard/SATA/PATA chipset driver
- No video driver
- No Ethernet driver
- ALC662 audio driver
- Used 10.5.5 seatbelt.kext file (failure to do so results in crashes)
- Did NOT patch the PCI detection code (I don't recall the option name); using that patch results in crashes upon reboot
- After installation, patched or added drivers:
- Added nForceLAN Ethernet driver. Other Ethernet drivers, such as forcedeth, either don't work or work poorly. (iPC OSx86 PPF3 is supposed to include this driver.)
- Played with nVidia 6100 drivers. Most either did nothing or prevented the system from presenting a login screen. With no drivers, the video display 'tore' when moving windows, but some drivers at least prevented that. Unfortunately, I don't recall precisely what I did to get it working.
- Edited /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist to include the lines <key>Graphics Mode</key> and <string>1280x1024x32</string>. This sets the screen resolution for my display.
Resulting system works reasonably well:
- Ethernet works fine
- Disk access seems reasonably speedy; Xbench disk results 75.36. (Note this is on my PATA disk, not the stock SATA disk.)
- Sound works for output (on both channels); input not yet tested
- USB stick 'disk' works
- Video works and seems fast enough subjectively for desktop applications. Xbench video results: Quartz = 128.03, OpenGL = 39.34; User Interface = 100.40
- I'm able to run both native x86 and PPC applications.
What doesn't work:
- DVD playback fails because the DVD player doesn't like the display.
- X doesn't work (perhaps another Quarts issue).
Overall a good Hackintosh, albeit requiring some work, and perhaps a video card update would improve video performance.

- Installer will not recognize any storage devices unless configured in BIOS to IDE, AHCI will work once installation is finished. Kernel seems sensitive to Boot Disk Priority Configuration and will have random kernel panics at boot if system disk is not in the proper order of which the disks are connected to their respected ports (BLP0SD2). Sleep mode does not always work and may crash. Hard Disk Spin Down functionality is abnormal (Continuous Spin-Spin Down at irregular intervals without reason.)

- How to Install: Install a compatible network card. Install and apply AMD patch 1 and other required patch for AMD (3rd one down.) After you install, you need to get 'tulip.kext' from the internet and put it on a USB drive or find another way to get the file on the new installation. Then do chmod, chown, and then kextload to load it, and copy it into the '/System/Library/Extensions' folder.

- 15-in-1 Card Reader 100% Working Out Of The Box (tested with a regular SanDisk flash card)
- FireWire 100% Working Out of The Box (Tested with Ipod Third Gen connected with old firewire plug)
- USB 2 all Working (There is so many around this computer I dont have the time to try them all)
- DVD Writer-Reader 100% Working Out of The Box.(DVD Burning test made with Toast Titanium)
NOTES: Sometimes It doesnt shutdown completely, sometimes it does. Sometimes Sleep can put it in total coma so I need to reboot. All functions of the Aluminum Apple Keyboard are working. This system is verrrrrrrry cheap for a Core 2 Quad, lots of stuff in it. A Xbench test after Fresh Install and all components working 100% gave me a result of 154. I'm verry happy with this machine, it is made to be a good mac. The most complicated and Scary part was to Flash the Bios. Every other drivers (RTGMac 1.1.6 and NvInstaller V4.1) added after was pretty easy to do, no 'repair disk permission' or 'Show package' or 'kext Editing' were needed, everything is automated. Converting this machine to a Mac was a piece of cake (but lots of research on the InsanelyMac Forum).
